Paula Jean Swearengin is the daughter of a coal miner’s family, and she is running for U.S. Senate in order to uphold core human values. Paula Jean initially ran for U.S. Senate in 2018 against Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV). Unfortunately, she fell short in the Democratic primary. However, she did get 30% of the vote against Joe Manchin, a long time Incumbent Democrat. Paula’s 2018 campaign, in addition to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Amy Vilela, and Cori Bush’s campaign, were all showcased in the hit Netflix documentary “Knock Down the House.” In 2020, Paula Jean received 38% of the vote in the Democratic primary, within a three-way race, securing the Democratic nomination.
This fall, Paula Jean’s campaign is seeking interns to fulfill our ambitious field goals and explore the internal functionings to running a senatorial campaign. Interns will have the opportunity to complete field tasks and conduct outreach while also exploring different interests within the campaign. The program will primarily be conducted remotely with an option for students in West Virginia to complete in-person work with safety precautions. Hours are flexible and dependent on availability, however, there is a 15 hour/week requirement.
Interns will be compensated with either college credit or volunteer hours. Some Interns, with priority going to in state interns, will also be given stipends. All stipends will initially be distributed on a first come first serve basis and additional offers will be allocated by merit. Stipends can only be allocated to those 18 years and over, however, the option to receive course credit or service hours will always be available.
